defusion

2004 and earlier

Three Danish guys (Mads, Daniel & Bjarke) spent a lot of time together because of their common interest in electronic music and music creation. The projects at this time were mainly trance and were mostly influenced by other trance projects, such as Flutlicht, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond.

Then in spring 2003 Defusion was created as an alternative project for the track “Falling in Between”. Defusion received a lot of attention and positive feedback during the first couple of months because of their unusual ideas and genre mixes. Still at this point the trance inspiration in the music was easy to find, but the hip-hop influenced beat and the “housy” feel pointed out that the guys were starting to develop an interest in different sorts of music.

For instance they started listening to bands like The Prodigy and The Crystal Method. The guys’ interest in Defusion did however die out again, and the only other track that got finished was “Lucy” and “Accelerate” sometime in 2004. 2004 was the year where their trance productions became more and more professional, but trance music in general was starting to bore them.

2005

At the end of 2004 the Defusion guys developed an interest in rock music. Especially bands like Placebo, Muse, Radiohead and Gorillaz fell in their interest. At the same time other electronic projects like Depeche Mode, Funkstörung, Röyksopp, Colder and Massive Attack found a place among their favorite bands and the number of trance productions slowly decreased. Defusion was finally resurrected in 2005 when the thought of creating electronic music with rock influences occurred to them. Although they had a hard time making music together because of their different educations, a lot of tracks came to live this year.

2006

The guys had problems finishing their tracks - they had never dealt with recording and the tracks just never seemed good enough. Then in spring/summer 2006 after their first live performance they suddenly finished lyrics, guitar and buildup on several tracks and were ready to record it. With a little help from Kasper Anhøj and his studio they recorded a demo (So Different but So Alike) containing 5 fresh tracks based on electronic music with guitar and vocal - this was a big move for Defusion. With their new demo they began to focus on promoting it with live performances and a website.

2007

Time seemed to pass right by along with their new educations and homework made it difficult to make music productively.

The sound of Defusion is quite unique, not in the way that it has never been heard before, but more in the way that it is a collaboration between many musical styles and ideas, giving the tracks a very personal and experimental sound.
